The Making.

Process & Exploration

More recently, my practice has expanded into abstract art, exploring 3D mixed media and textured surfaces. This shift has allowed me to experiment more freely with depth, layering, and materiality. I am particularly interested in how texture can evoke emotion and create a tactile dialogue between the artwork and the viewer. Through this exploration, I aim to move beyond representation and focus on atmosphere, sensation, and intuitive expression.

I am based in London, and I value artistic freedom and the idea that creativity should never feel restricted. I move fluidly between different expressions; some of my pieces are bold and bursting with colour, while others are more neutral and minimal. This contrast reflects all my senses and intuition for colour and shape but also what surrounds me.

In my work, I like to balance control with spontaneity, guiding the paint but also letting it flow in its own direction.

As I absorb everything around me, I often travel to get inspired and soak in different cultures and anything I find impressive. I am always staying curious as that is a key part of my artistic journey. I love pop culture, architecture, music, fashion, and anything that can inspire me to make art.

In terms of education, I graduated from Chelsea College of Arts, part of the University of the Arts London, in 2014 with an MA in Textile Design. I also studied Fashion Design at NBU in 2007 in Bulgaria, and I have won a couple of awards and competitions for design and fashion illustration over the years.

And you might be wondering where the name “TANKA” comes from — it’s actually a nickname my family has used for me since I was a girl.
